Why did Jesus have to return to Heaven?

After the resurrection Jesus stayed on the earth for 40 days teaching and explaining scripture and prophecy concerning Himself to His disciples (Acts 1:3).  However, Jesus left them and ascended into Heaven (Acts 1:9).  The reason why Jesus left the earth was for 2 reasons.  First, the Jews were looking for His millennial reign and even the disciples would not let this go (Acts 1:6).  They were more concerned about Israel’s dominate place than the salvation of the world.  Second, Jesus wanted to provide a chance for the Gentiles to gain redemption and come to knowledge of God (Romans 11).  We are here today as proof that we do not need to see God physically or the mighty works of the Bible in order to believe (John 20:29).
