When was Jesus born?

We celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25, but it has been long known that this was not when He was born.  Shepherds would not be out at night with their flocks in December because it is during the rainy season and temperatures at night around Bethlehem average from a high of 45 to below freezing.   Zacharias performed his priestly duties during the time of Abia, which was around mid June (Luke 1:5; 1 Chronicles 24:10; the Jewish year begins in March).  Jesus was conceived 6 months after this (Luke 1:26).  So add 6 months to June and you get December and add 9 months to that and you get September for the birth of Jesus.
