What was the star the guided the wise men to Jesus?

There are many who believe the star that led the wise men to Jesus was a physical, natural star or crossing of planets.  However, the evidence for this just does not add up.  Many claim that it was the crossing of Jupiter and Venus in July, 2 BC, but Jesus was born during the fall of 6 BC.  Also the star appeared, disappeared, moved, and guided, traits that do not accompany natural stars (Matthew 2:1-10).  The star referred to in Matthew was an angel.  We see this correlation in Revelation 1:20; where the stars are represented by angels.  Based on the unique character and actions of the star in Matthew 2, this makes the most sense.
