What is the meaning of Revelation 11:2?

When the Apostle John was told by the angel to measure the temple in Jerusalem he told him to not measure the outer court because it was for the Gentiles.  The temple of God had a court of the Gentiles in it for the Gentiles to be able to pray to God there.  Gentiles were restricted from entering the main part of the temple, but this was provided for them to gain access to God.  This verse also states that the Gentile will tread Jerusalem under foot for 42 months or 3.5 years.  This shows that Jerusalem will be under Gentile rule under the Antichrist for the last half of the tribulation period.  After this time period Jesus will return and set up His kingdom and reclaim Jerusalem for the Jews.
