Are the days of creation literal 24 hour days?

There are many who claim that the days of creation are not literal days, but long periods of time.  They state 2 Peter 3:8 claiming that days can be 1000 years or more.  However this is not what this verse means.  This verse is talking about how God is timeless and is not restricted to time.  There are some easy ways to show that the days of creation are literal days.  The uses of evening, morning, and a number all tell us that they are literal days, since they are considered so elsewhere in the Bible with these criteria.  Also in Exodus 20:11 we are told that God made everything in 6 days and rested on the 7th and this is the basis for our 7 day week.  And there were literal days before God created the sun on day 4, since light was brought forth on day 1.  So yes the days of creation were literal 24 hour days, not long periods of time.
