Should Christians trust what scholars say about the Bible?

Many times, people invoke scholars in fields to try to prove a point they are making on a given subject.  This is because these people are supposed to know the topic thoroughly, having studied it for years.  However, many times these scholars go against the Bible and place their own views above God’s Word.  While scholars may be educated, it does not mean they are infallible (this includes Christian scholars as well).  While we can look to some of these people to help us understand the scriptures better, we do not need to rely on them completely.  The Holy Spirit is to be our guide to understanding the Bible and what God is saying (2 Peter 1:20-21; 1 Corinthians 2:10-16).  When there is a conflict between the Bible and the scholars, always go with God’s Word (Proverbs 3:7)
