Why does the Bible include so much history within the Old Testament?

Many people tend to get lost in the history books within the Bible.  These accounts can seem monotonous and boring as one reads through all the “begats,” laws, and who did what.  However, these books of the Bible are very important.  The Bible records how God has interacted with mankind (and in particular, Israel) in real history.  The reason for all the detail is because this makes it testable and verifiable.  If the Bible couldn’t be verified in history, then everything else would be false.  But the Bible has been verified time and again by history and archeology.  This is God’s design to prove His power, love, and concern with man throughout time.
