Are the thoughts of your mind the same as your heart?

Many times in the Bible the heart of man is a reference to the soul, not the organ.  While today many people say we think with our brains, our decisions are driven by our soul and therefore the heart of man.  We do think with our brains but our hearts guide those decisions.  This is why we become heavy hearted when we make decisions that we know are wrong and become guilty.  The heart of man is evil, always making bad judgment calls, and driving us to sin (Matthew 15:19-20).  The Bible was given to us by God to show us our evil ways and how to turn from them (Hebrews 4:12).  It is when we turn to Christ that our soul is cleansed and we can make good decisions.
