How does predestination work according to the Bible?

The work predestination comes with a lot of baggage and fear.  There are many who think that God has predestined certain people to be saved and others not.  However this is not what the Bible talks about when using this word.  In Ephesians Paul tells us that before the beginning of the world God predetermined what He was going to do in that He was going to make a way for people to be saved from their sin (Ephesians 1:3-6).  God also decided that He was going to give incredible blessings through His salvation and that He would get the praise and glory for His gift (Ephesians 1:7-11).  Another thing that God determined was that those who accepted this gift of salvation would be conformed into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ and that we would be glorified with Him (Romans 8:29-30).  God did not decide who would be saved and who would not, that is a choice of free will, but He did decide on the blessings and rewards to be given to those who would accept His love and grace.
