How is time determined in the Bible?
The Bible uses a very different way of telling time than we do today. First of all the Jewish year is based on a lunar calendar instead of a solar one. This means that every month has 30 days each instead of the changing number of our solar calendar. This makes the Jewish year slightly shorter than our year and is why their holidays are never the same day two years in a row. Also our clocks are different as well. Our days start at midnight but for the Jews their days start at our 6 pm the day before. So Sunday at 6 pm would actually be Monday for the Jews. With all of these differences it is sometimes hard to keep things straight, but once we apply these things the Bible is easier to understand when dealing with time.
