Why is the writing on the sign above the cross different in every gospel?

Matthew says, “This is Jesus the king of the Jews.”  Mark says, “The king of the Jews.”  Luke says, “This is the king of the Jews.”  John says, “Jesus of Nazareth the king of the Jews.”  Many argue that because each gospel says something different that it shows the account is false.  However, each gospel is considered a different eyewitness account of what happened.  And in so doing, gives a different perspective than the others.  This doesn’t show inconsistency, but truth in what was seen overall.  By combining all 4 we get the full statement placed on the sign above Jesus:  “This is Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews.”
