Why did Jesus ask questions that He already knew the answer to?

Some people wonder why Jesus would bother asking people questions about things since He is God and already knows the answer.  But like all good teachers, Jesus asked questions of His disciples and others to try to get them to think about things and understand them better.  When Jesus asked His disciples what people were saying about Him (Matthew 16:13), He already knew what everyone was saying.  He asked the disciples this because He was not only wondering if they have been paying attention (which He already knew), but also for them to realize the truth about who He really was.  When Jesus asked the Pharisees whose son was the Christ to be (Matthew 22:41), He did so to show them that they were not as smart as they thought themselves to be in the scriptures.  Asking questions helps people gain wisdom and to think critically and this is why Jesus did this so often.
