How did the Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs get involved in celebrating the Christian day of Easter?

Many think that Easter was always a Christian holiday, but they are mistaken.  Easter was actually a pagan holiday that honored goddesses of fertility throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia.  The rabbit and eggs are symbols of fertility and they had games, as well as other activities, during this time in honor of it (egg hunts).  This holiday was celebrating the Earth’s rebirth in spring after winter.  The Easter holiday is mentioned in Acts 12:4 when Herod was going to wait to kill Peter.  Many think that this was meaning when Jesus died on the Passover, but verse 3 tells us that Peter was arrested during the days of unleavened bread (a feast that lasted 7 days after the Passover).  Herod was celebrating a pagan holiday here and wanted to honor his pagan gods with Peter’s death.  The Roman Catholic Church took this pagan holiday and made it a Christian holiday, however there was no basis for doing this and it has confused many people over the centuries.  And no the Easter Bunny is not real, sorry.
