How does God exist outside of time?

Trying to understand the timelessness of God is very difficult for us to comprehend.  The Bible tells us that God had no beginning, nor will He ever end (Revelation 1:8).  We are told that God was here before the beginning of creation (Genesis 1:2).  It boggles the mind to think of something that has no beginning or starting point, because everything we know and see has some type of beginning.  The same is true with eternal life, sometimes it is hard to think of life as never ending.  We do know that God operates outside our concept of time, mainly because God created time (Genesis 1:14).  He transcends time and knows what will happen because He was already there.  God exists outside of time simply because He is God; if He could be affected by time, then He would not be God.
