Is a kind of animal the same thing as a species?

The Bible is very clear that God made all the animals after their kind when He created the universe and that they reproduce after their kind (Genesis 1).  The term “kind” does not reflect our modern term of species, but rather the family biological grouping.  There are many species of dogs, but they are all still considered the same kind of animal.  The same thing goes for bears, cats, horses, and any other animal on the earth.  The animals within these kinds can reproduce and create variations such as ligers (lion and tiger) and zonkeys (zebra and donkey).  God designed everything this way so there would be variety and beauty in creation for us to understand His power and glory (Romans 1:20).
