Does the church make someone a saint?

There are many who believe that saints are canonized by a church once they are dead and only then if it can be proved that a miracle occurred during their lifetime.  However, a church organization has no power to claim if a person is a saint or not; there is nothing in the Bible that says this!  The Bible does say that once a person is saved that they are considered a saint from that point on (Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:2).  The term saint is used both in the Old Testament and the New Testament to describe those who follow God (Psalm 30:4; Hosea 11:12).  Only God knows who is truly a follower and worshiper of Him, and He is the one that grants this title to those who are His.
