Why do the gospels give accounts of the same events?

The gospels are a witness of the earthly life and ministry of Jesus Christ.  Matthew, Mark, and Luke are known as the synoptic gospels because of the similarities between them.  They all tell of mostly the same events, but with some differences.  The reason for this is because of different people writing from different perspectives.  The reason we read the same events throughout the gospels is so we can get a fuller picture of what happened.  The only event other than the death and resurrection that all 4 gospels have is the feeding of the 5000 and through looking at all 4 we see the whole picture as to what happened on that day.  These eyewitness accounts hold the truth and to fully understand that truth we need a clear picture as to what happened.  And this is what the gospels do for us.
