Where is the land of Shinar?

The first mention of it is when Nimrod built his kingdom within the land (Genesis 10:10).  We see it again as the land in which the Tower of Babel took place (Genesis 11:1).  We know that Babel was the ancient name for the kingdom of Babylon, through Josephus and other sources.  So, the land of Shinar must be Mesopotamia or modern-day Iraq, in particular the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.  We see this confirmed by scripture when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, brought the treasures of the Lord’s temple to the house of his god in the land of Shinar, which was the main temple of Marduk in Babylon (Daniel 1:2).  So, the land of Shinar is in present day Iraq.
