What did the Tower of Babel look like?
The Tower of Babel was not a tower as we would picture. The Tower of Babel was very likely a stepped pyramid called a ziggurat. These were very commonplace in the ancient middle east, particularly around Babylon, as temples, observatories, and centers of cult worship. There has been archeological evidence of this as well, and some archeologists believe they may have found the base of this famous and first ziggurat close to the ancient city of Babylon (formally known as Babel). An interesting note is that pyramid structures have been found throughout the world on most continents, most notably in Egypt and the Mayan stepped pyramids in Central America and can be traced back to this point in history.
