What was the significance of the gifts the wise men brought to Jesus?

The gifts the wise men brought to Jesus were not given just to be nice.  These gifts have a deeper meaning and impact on Jesus’ ministry and mission on earth.  The gold represents the fact that Jesus is the King of the Jews and that He will reign over Israel and the whole world during the Millennial Reign.  The myrrh represents the death of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the world (myrrh being an embalming agent used during burial).  The frankincense represents the fact that Jesus is the Great High Priest and symbolizes His priestly duties that He preformed before God in offering His blood upon the altar of Heaven (Hebrews 9).  These gifts proved that the wise men knew who Jesus truly was, the Savior of the world.
