Can family members help you in the afterlife?

Once a family member dies, there is really nothing they can do for you.  Their soul is either in heaven or hell and either way they have no power to change your life or situation.  There are many people who believe that this can occur, and it stems back to ancient ancestor worship, which most cultures practiced long ago and a few still do today.  However, the Bible tells us that the only one that can do anything for us or help us is the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus even used a parable of the rich man and Lazarus to show that this sort of thing cannot happen (Luke 16:19-31).  We need to remember to look to Christ and no one else.  He is the One Who saved us from our sin, and He is the One Who will take care of us while we are on the earth.
